The Otherworld Trilogy by Jenna Elizabeth Johnson

I started the first book of this series b/c it came in an anthology of faery stories.  I thought it might be interested and I was not disappointed.  This book has some things I love in a book to read when you need an escape: fairies, magic, and Celtic mythology. I'm fascinated by mythology but obviously I'm far more familiar with Greek mythology than any other kind.  However, I'm finding that I enjoy reading other stories as well: Roman, Norse, Celtic, etc.  This book has all those things.
There is a little bit of foul language in it and I think it implies sex more than describes anything to  make you uncomfortable.
I find Meghan likable enough.  She does get to be a bit whiney at times but I'm pleased that the author does not leave unexplained moments.  For instance, any time you have a teen disappear into another world, often the author leaves it unexplained why her parents didn't notice her missing.  This author does not do that.  She covers her bases; she back-stories everything.
Her real character that I adore is Cade.  He's typical hero/love interest in that he's a tortured soul who fears she won't love him if she knows his past but we all know how those stories usually go.  I also love that the author lets Cade get hurt.  He's not indestructable and she doesn't try to make him seem that way.  I love that.  I love that he can be insecure, fearful and he can be hurt.  He is the one who shows restraint in the story.  He has potential to be one of my fictional faves.
I recommend this book if you like mythology and magic.  It's a good escape and the trilogy is complete so BONUS!

Meghan Elam's life may not have been perfect, but at least it was somewhere just outside the realm of normal. Of course, it only gets worse when Cade MacRoich shows up and saves her from a pack of bloodthirsty monsters. And Cade doesn't stop after playing the part of the redeeming hero. He informs Meghan that she is not human, but Faelorehn and immortal. With the help of her mysterious rescuer, Meghan gradually learns who she truly is and that danger waits for her around every corner, danger that only grows when she ventures into the Otherworld. Between a vindictive goddess nipping at her heels and a mother who has been keeping secrets from her, Meghan must learn her new place in a magical and terrifying world, a world she is now very much a part of.
